MoDOT to Hold Community Briefing to Discuss Exit 93 Interchange in Cape Girardeau County

SIKESTON-The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold an open house community briefing from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 to discuss the Exit 93 interchange in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The meeting will be held at the Cape Girardeau Career & Technology Center, located at 1080 S. Silver Springs Rd., Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

The Exit 93 interchange connects southbound Kingshighway traffic to Interstate 55 or Route 74. The bridge in this location is referred to as a “flyover,” and it is in poor condition.

“The flyover was constructed in 1961 and currently carries more than 6,000 vehicles a day,” said Project Manager Benji Philpot. “The flyover needs to be replaced soon.”

He added the interchange could also benefit from reconfiguration.

“Funding has not been secured for an extensive reconfiguration project at this time, but through MoDOT’s discussions with the City of Cape Girardeau and the Southeast Metropolitan Planning Organization, we have started to explore the long-term future of this interchange,” said Philpot.

Philpot explained MoDOT will share information about replacing the flyover during the meeting.

“We also hope to receive public input about any concerns or potential areas of improvement that might be addressed through reconfiguring the interchange,” he added.

For more information, please contact Philpot at (573) 472-5371, Area Engineer Brian Okenfuss at (573) 472-9046 or MoDOT's Customer Service Center toll-free at 1-888-ASK MODOT (275-6636).
