Route U Tipp Creek Bridge in Schuyler County To Temporarily Close

Temporary Bridge To Be Installed for Wind Farm Equipment

HANNIBAL – Weather permitting, Monday, Feb. 10, Schuyler County Route U will temporarily close due to the installation of a temporary bridge at Tipp Creek, located 2.75 miles south of Lancaster. High Prairie Wind Farm will be performing this construction as this temporary bridge will be installed over the current state bridge. This closure is expected to last two weeks.

“This temporary bridge is needed in order to carry the loads associated with the construction of the wind turbines in the area,” said MoDOT Resident Engineer Shane Viers. “The existing bridge is not able to handle the those loads without being damaged.” he added.

Once installed, the bridge will be one-lane traffic controlled by a temporary signal. The bridge will stay in place until completion of the turbines in that area, which is expected to be summer of 2020.

“Since the temporary bridge will be higher than the existing bridge, oncoming traffic will not have a clear view of each other,” Viers said. “We ask that all motorists please obey the traffic signals.”

Motorists will need to use alternate routes during the closure time. Please obey all work zones signs and personnel.
