Projects Awarded for Routes in Adair, Knox, Macon, Linn and Sullivan County

MACON – The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission recently awarded a contract to W.L. Miller, of Hamilton, Illinois, for projects in Adair, Knox, Macon, Linn and Sullivan County in the amount of $4,970,996. The projects are as follows:

Missouri Route 6 (Adair & Knox) – resurface from 0.20 mile east of U.S. Route 63 in Adair County to Missouri Route 15 south junction in Knox County, near Edina

Missouri Route 6 (Adair) – chip seal from east of Missouri Route 149 at the Chariton River to Business Route 63 in Kirksville

Missouri Route 3 (Adair & Macon) – chip seal from east Missouri Route 11 in Adair County to Missouri Route 156 in Macon County near Cardy

Adair County Route H
– chip seal from LaHarpe Street to MO 11 in Kirksville

Missouri Route 11 (Adair, Knox, Linn & Sullivan) – chip seal from Missouri Route 15 near Baring to Missouri Route 129 in Linn County (two disconnected sections)

Adair County Route P – chip seal from Business 63 to U.S. 63 in Kirksville

“The resurfacing project on MO 6 in Adair and Knox will include a 1 ¾ inch overlay with paved shoulders, along with centerline and edge line rumblestrips to increase safety,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Amy Crawford. “The remaining projects include crews applying liquid asphalt that helps seal off any cracks that may be in the road, and then will apply small aggregate rock,” she added.

A chip seal can be accomplished without closing a road; however, it is extremely important drivers significantly reduce their speed during and immediately after the operation.  Excess rock is swept away by crews shortly after the operation is complete.  Typically, within a few days, the rock has either been embedded into the oil or removed from the surface.  The purpose of this operation is to keep a road in its same condition by infusing it with oil.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zones while the work is completed. The work could begin as early as this spring and should be completed before next fall.

“A more specific schedule on these projects will be shared after the contractor provides the plan for completing the work,” Crawford added.
