Lamar – Drivers should seek alternate routes and expect delays when SW 10th Lane (between U.S. Route 160 and West Central Road) and West Central Road (between SW 10th Lane and SW 1st Lane) are CLOSED the week of November 11 as contractor crews pave the two county roads ahead of the Route 160 bridge replacement project over the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad tracks in Lamar, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Contractor crews will close the roads for up to 20 days to prepare them to be detour routes during the closing of Route 160 during the bridge project.
Once the roads re-open to traffic, Route 160 will close to allow crews to remove the old bridge and begin construction on a new structure.
Route 160 could remain closed until May 1, 2020, at the latest.
The current 24-foot wide bridge will be widened to 43-feet to accommodate two 12-foot driving lanes, two eight-foot wide shoulders with barrier curb and fencing on both sides. The new bridge also will be raised an additional three-feet over the railroad tracks.
The existing bridge was built in 1939 and carries approximately 3,000 vehicles per day. The bridge is in poor condition and in need of frequent repairs.
