UPDATE: Project to Upgrade Sidewalks Along Rangeline Road

in Joplin Also Includes Upgrades to Business Entrances

Joplin – A project to upgrade sidewalks to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, along Rangeline Road (Loop 49) in Joplin includes work at some business entrances, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

 

At times, business entrances may be gravel as crews remove sections of sidewalks that run across them so that new pavement can be installed. Contractor crews, working with the businesses, are ensuring access to all businesses remain open during the work.

Drivers are urged to use caution as they travel over gravel at times at business entrances to reach their destinations.

The project is nearing completion and should be completed by mid-November.

Here’s a look at the project: 

  • Contractor crews upgrading sidewalks to conform to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, including replacing sidewalk and installing curb ramps and pedestrian signals in areas along Range Line Road.
  • Driveway concrete replaced in half sections and temporary gravel driveways will be provided to allow access to the property.
  • The work will be done in these areas:
    • In Webb City between 10th Street and 12th Street
    • In Joplin between Turkey Creek Boulevard and Hammons Boulevard
  • The project also included resurfacing nearly 21 miles of Business Loop 49 (Rangeline Road in Joplin) and add shoulders and rumble strips in areas between Missouri Route 171 in Carterville and Missouri Route 175 south of Tipton Ford. In addition, guardrail was upgraded at bridges over Shoal Creek and Thurman Branch.

 Project Details: 

  • Sidewalk Improvements:
    • Prime contractor: D&E Plumbing & Heating Inc., Nixa
    • Total project cost: $2.1 million
    • Completion date: Mid-November 2019
  •  Resurfacing:
    • Prime contractor: Blevins Asphalt Construction Co., Mt. Vernon
    • Total project cost: $6.2 million (includes a project to improve approaches to bridges on Missouri Route 249)
    • Completion date: November 1, 2019
