Traffic Alert: Lane Closure on Highway 50 from Route AA to Route W/Z through Oct. 25

JOHNSON COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will close one lane in both directions on Highway 50 from Sam Moore Road to Route W/Z beginning tomorrow through Oct. 25.

The left lanes will stay closed throughout the week beginning Mondays at 6 a.m. and will reopen on Fridays at 4 p.m. through Oct. 25.

These lane closures will enable crews to pave the median for the Route AA J-Turn deceleration and acceleration lanes for County Road 1801. Data shows that J-turns have contributed to an 88 percent reduction in fatality crashes in locations where they have been implemented. The J-turn design reduces the number of conflict points and crash severity at these types of intersections.

All work is weather dependent.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
