PETTIS COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will move forward with the proposed J-turn at U.S. Route 50 and Missouri Route 127 in La Monte.
MoDOT hosted a public meeting to discuss the future of the intersection on June 27, 2019. The department received a variety of comments from the 55 people in attendance as well as from those who called, emailed, or spoke to MoDOT staff in person outside of the meeting.
While some area residents have concerns about this change, the data shows that J-turns have contributed to an 88 percent reduction in fatality crashes in locations where they have been implemented. The J-turn design reduces the number of conflict points and crash severity at these types of intersections.
MoDOT will keep the crossing at Route 50 and Pleasant Green Road open. MoDOT will close that intersection if the J-turn at Route 50 and MO 127 creates shifting traffic patterns that cause concern.
Construction on this project is scheduled for spring/summer of 2022.
Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
