MAYVIEW – A memorial sign dedication ceremony honoring Jeff Sanders, a volunteer firefighter for the Mayview Fire Protection District, will be held at 3 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Mayview Fire Station located at 500 W Orchard St. Mayview, MO 64071. The public is invited to attend the event.
On June 19th, 2017, while responding to a call for the Mayview Fire Protection District, Sanders died in the line of duty. Sanders served the MFPD for more than 30 years as a volunteer in the community. In honor of his service to his community, the portion of Route E from Lafayette Street South to Outer Road Interstate 70 East in Lafayette County will be named the “Firefighter Jeff Sanders Memorial Highway.”
The Missouri Memorial Highway Dedication Program allows state highways and bridges to be named after an individual (deceased two or more years), an event, place or organization. No bridge or section of a highway on the state highway system may be designated after more than one individual, event, place or organization. Two signs shall be installed for each highway and bridge designation on the state’s highway system.
