POSTPONED: U.S. Route 59 to be resurfaced

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – A resurfacing project on U.S. Route 59 is delayed. The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with Herzog Contracting Corporation to resurface just over 13 miles of U.S. Route 59 from Route 752 in St. Joseph to just north of Route 45. Crews will mill off the old surface and then lay down new asphalt through this area.

The contractor has postponed plans to begin working on the left-turn lane on southbound U.S. Route 59 at Route 45 which was originally scheduled to begin tomorrow, Oct. 1. A new start date has not been established at this time. After the work on the turn lane is completed, crews plan to perform patching on the edge and in the center of the roadway, then move to milling and overlaying the entire route within the project limits.

Once work begins, crews plan to work during daylight hours, Monday through Saturday. Some work may occur on Sundays, if necessary, to complete the project on schedule. A pilot car will be used to guide vehicles through the work zone. The contractor hopes to have all work completed in early November.

Motorists who regularly travel this area should be alert and watch for roadway signs and workers. All work is weather permitting and could be rescheduled.

MoDOT encourages all travelers to slow down, especially in work zones, as there will be large equipment and workers near the driving lanes. As always, please buckle up, eliminate distractions, pay attention and drive safely so everyone is able to Arrive Alive.
