Contracted bridge repairs wrapping up at U.S. Route 36 and Interstate 229 in St. Joseph

MoDOT maintenance crews to begin bridge ramp maintenance pending weather

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Bridge joint repairs on U.S. Route 36, Route 752 and Interstate 229, which began in March, are in the final stages. The Missouri Department of Transportation contracted with Capital Paving and Construction, LLC to complete the repairs.

The project required single-lane closures at the bridge on Route 752 over I-229 and on U.S. Route 36 between Route C/Z and Route 31 south, as well as full ramp closures in and around the I-229 and U.S. Route 36 interchange in St. Joseph.

The final ramp closure on this project came to an end this morning when the contractor was able to reopen the ramp from southbound I-229 to eastbound U.S. Route 36. There is still painting work to be done on the project, but any traffic impacts will be minimal during this part of the project.

MoDOT maintenance crews will begin bridge maintenance work on several area ramps beginning next week. The following ramps are expected to close Monday, Sept. 30, weather permitting:

  • 6th Street to northbound I-229, 8 a.m. to noon
  • Northbound I-229 to U.S. Route 36, 8 a.m. to noon

More ramp maintenance will be scheduled, as weather allows. Motorists who regularly use the ramps in the area where U.S. Route 36 and I-229 come together should check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map daily at traveler.modot.org before their commute.
