MoDOT To Close Lane of Northbound Route 291 Bridge Tomorrow After Issues Found During Inspection

JACKSON COUNTY – Crews will close the right lane on the northbound Route 291 Bridge over the Missouri River at Sugar Creek tomorrow due to significant deterioration found during a recent bridge inspection by the Missouri Department of Transportation. The timeline for the closure is unknown.

“At this time we are considering our long-term options with this bridge,” said MoDOT Kansas City District Engineer Dave Silvester. “We ask that the public be patient with us while we determine the best solution for everyone.”

The 70-year old northbound bridge carries almost 11,000 vehicles daily. The bridge was repaired in 2015, but new deterioration was found in areas that hadn’t needed repairs previously.
