Traffic Alert: Lane closures on US Route 50 through Oct. 4

JOHNSON COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will expand lane closures on US Route 50 as they continue work on a new J-turn.

  • The right lane of eastbound Route 50 from Sam Moore Road to just east of County Road 1801 will now be closed day and night Monday through Friday through Oct. 4. The right lane will close on Mondays at 6 a.m. and will open at 4 p.m. on Fridays.
  • The right lane of westbound Route 50 at County Road 1801 will close from Route Z to just east of Route AA beginning Monday, Sept. 16 through Oct. 4. The closure will begin on Mondays at 6 a.m. and last through Fridays at 4 p.m.
  • County Road 1801 at eastbound Route 50 has also been closed for this project and will remain closed through Oct. 4.

J-Turns have proven a very successful safety solution along Route 50. In our district, J-turns were used on Route 50 and Route 58 five years ago and at Route 50 and Route 131 in 2017. Both intersections have experienced up to 77 percent in crash reductions. Click here to learn more about this project.

Review the work on MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map at traveler.modot.orgAll work is weather dependent.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
