U.S. Route 160 Widening Project - Willard to Springfield

Frisco Highline Trail Schedule to CLOSE at Route 160 North of Springfield on Sept. 23

Willard/Springfield Area – The Frisco Highline Trail (Mile 3) where it travels underneath U.S. Route 160 north of Springfield is scheduled to CLOSE Monday, September 23, to allow contractor crews to install a new box culvert to carry the trail under the new highway lanes, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Once the trail closes, contractor crews have 60 days to install a new box culvert which will carry the trail underneath the new lanes being built on Route 160 between Springfield and Willard. Once work begins, the trail will be closed until late November.

The highway is being widened to four lanes between I-44 in Springfield and Jackson Street in Willard.

While the trail is closed, trail users will not have access to the trail where it travels underneath Route 160. There will be large equipment, deep holes and other hazards which make it unsafe for trail users to be in the construction area.

Contractor crews will cordon off the area to keep trail users safe during construction of the new section of the trail.

Trail Closed Ahead signs will be installed at the Willard and Springfield trailheads. There will be other signs posted at the actual closing point warning users of the trail closing.

Trail users will have access to the trail on either side of the closing.

TRAIL USERS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED NOT TO TRAVEL THROUGH THE CONSTRUCTION AREA FOR THEIR SAFETY!

(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.)
