Two ramps reopening at Interstate 229 and U.S. Route 36 in St. Joseph

One ramp to remain closed

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Bridge joint repairs are progressing at or near the intersection of U.S. Route 36, Interstate 229 and Route 759 in St. Joseph. Crews from Capital Paving and Construction, LLC, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, have been steadily working on improving conditions at several ramps in the area.

As crews complete two long-term ramp closures, one ramp will remain closed as there is an issue with the supplier receiving some necessary parts. Due to the nature of the delay, an end date for the work is not known at this time.

Motorists in the area may have become accustomed to the signals on U.S. Route 36 at this interchange being green for through traffic. With the reopening of two ramps, the signals will be active again and drivers should be prepared to stop.

OPENING:

  • Ramp from U.S. Route 36 westbound to I-229 southbound
  • Ramp from I-229 northbound to U.S. Route 36 (both directions)

CLOSED:

  • Ramp from I-229 southbound to U.S. Route 36 eastbound. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

Updates are provided on a web page dedicated to the project: https://www.modot.org/buchanan-county-bridge-joint-repairs-us-route-36-and-i-229.
