MoDOT opens new dual Route 152 bridges over I-35 in Liberty

LEE’S SUMMIT – Today at approximately 10:04 a.m. crews for the Missouri Department of Transportation opened the westbound portion of the new dual Route 152 bridges over I-35 in Liberty, MO. Crews then opened the eastbound side of the new bridges shortly after 10:35 a.m.

The redesigned bridges opened weeks ahead of schedule after the previous bridge was torn down back in the spring.

The dual bridges feature eight lanes in one and three lanes in the other. Part of the new dual bridge system will have a displaced-left Diverging Diamond configuration.

The overall project will replace the Route 152 Bridge over I-35; make improvements to Kansas Street and Route 291, and add wider driving lanes and additional turn lanes. The project will also address bicycle and pedestrian needs along the corridor with sidewalks and multiple-use paths.

As a reminder, there is more construction work underway and motorists should expect lane closures from time to time.

The estimated $30 million project is expected to be completed by the end of August 2020.
