JOHNSON COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation beings work on Kansas City’s fourth J-turn on Route 50 this week. Improvements will impact intersections at Routes AA and Z/W. Crews will begin on the eastbound route and motorists will encounter single lane closures during construction. Crews anticipate working daily 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday through the Fall and early Winter. Click here to learn more about this project.
J-Turns have proven a very successful safety solution along Route 50. In our district, J-turns were used on Highway 50 and Route 58 five years ago and at Highway 50 and MO 131 in 2017. Both intersections have experienced up to 77 percent in crash reductions.
Crews will make allowances for peak lake travel days but motorists should be aware there is construction through this area and plan accordingly. Review the work on MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map at traveler.modot.org. All work is weather dependent.
Please remember that all work zones are NO PHONE zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones.
