Route 65: THE REBUILD The Final Phase - Springfield

Update for Week of August 4
  • Southbound Route 65 CLOSED between Sunshine Street and Battlefield Road starting at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, August 4
  • All southbound Route 65 traffic diverted to Sunshine Street
  • Temporary traffic signals go into full operation at Blackman Road/Battlefield Road and at Greene County Route D/Route 125 intersections around noon on Saturday, Aug. 3 

Work Scheduled:  

  • Sunday and Monday – remove old concrete pavement, grade base rock and install reinforcing steel for new pavement
  • Tuesday and Wednesday – pour concrete for new pavement
  • Thursday and Friday – allow new concrete to harden properly
  • Apply pavement striping to new pavement
  • Pave shoulders in areas between Sunshine Street and Battlefield Road
  • Install new guardrail in areas 

Traffic Impacts:  

  • Southbound Route 65 CLOSED between Sunshine Street and Battlefield Road from 12:01 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, until Saturday, Aug. 10
    • Ramp from Sunshine Street to southbound Route 65 CLOSED
    • Ramp from southbound Route 65 to Battlefield Road CLOSED
  • Southbound Route 65 OPEN south of Battlefield Road
  • Temporary traffic signals go into full operation at Blackman Road/Battlefield Road and Greene County Route D/Route 125 intersections at noon on Saturday, Aug. 3
    • Drivers urged to use caution when traveling through the intersections
  • No traffic impacts on northbound Route 65
  • Drivers urged to avoid southbound Route 65 in Springfield until Aug. 20 and find alternate routes
  • Signed detours:
    • West detour: I-44 to eastbound Missouri Route 360 to eastbound U.S. Route 60 to southbound Route 65
    • East detour: I-44 to Missouri Route 125 to westbound U.S. 60 to southbound Route 65 

(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.)

    • All southbound lanes of Route 65 CLOSED between Sunshine Street and Battlefield Road
    • Southbound on ramp from Sunshine Street to Route 65 CLOSED
    • Southbound off ramp from Route 65 to Battlefield Road CLOSED 
  • Saturday-Tuesday, August 10-20
    • All southbound lanes of Route 65 CLOSED between Battlefield Road and Route 60
    • Southbound Route 65 OPEN between Sunshine Street and Battlefield Road, but reduced to one lane
    • Southbound on ramp from Battlefield Road to Route 65 CLOSED
    • Southbound Route 65-to-westbound Route 60 ramp CLOSED 

All lanes of Route 65 open during the Labor Day holiday (Tuesday-Friday, August 20-September 6) 

  • Friday-Saturday, September 6-14
    • All northbound lanes of Route 65 CLOSED between Route 60 and Battlefield Road
    • Eastbound Route 60-to-northbound Route 65 ramp CLOSED
    • Westbound Route 60-to-northbound Route 65 ramp CLOSED
    • Northbound off ramp from Route 65 to Battlefield Road CLOSED 
  • Saturday-Friday, September 14-20
    • All northbound lanes of Route 65 CLOSED between Battlefield Road and Sunshine Street
    • Northbound Route 65 OPEN between Route 60 and Battlefield Road, but reduced to one lane
    • Northbound on ramp from Battlefield Road to Route 65 CLOSED
    • Northbound off ramp from Route 65 to Sunshine Street CLOSED
    • Eastbound Route 60-to-northbound Route 65 ramp CLOSED
    • Westbound Route 60-to-northbound Route 65 ramp CLOSED
    • Route 60 crossovers CLOSED between Route 65 and Greene County Routes NN/J 
  • September 20-November 1
    • Nighttime lane closings for shoulder construction/guardrail/striping 
  • Prime Contractor: Emery Sapp and Sons, Inc. of Columbia
  • Completion Date: November 2019 (However, contractor plans to complete project by late September.)
  • Total Project Cost: $8.1 million
