Clark County Route A Set to Open Sometime late Friday

Community to Hold Ribbon Cutting and Plans Barbecue as a Celebration

HANNIBAL - Drivers in Clark County will soon enjoy a new bridge on Route A near Wyaconda.  The new bridge, located 2.6 miles south of Missouri Route 136, is set to open sometime Friday, July 26.  However, the community of Wyaconda is celebrating its completion and honoring former Mayor Jim Shaffer, who sadly passed away earlier this year.  A ribbon cutting will be held on the bridge Friday, July 26 at 2 p.m., followed by a barbecue in The City Park in Wyaconda.

“This was Jim’s bridge,” said Aaron Small, resident who, along with Bob Mathes, is coordinating the event.  “Jim was so excited when MoDOT announced the bridge would be replaced, and he really wanted to see it open, but since he passed, we are holding these events in his honor,” Small said.

Earlier this year, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the contract for two bridge replacements in the amount of $1,842,191 to Bleigh Construction Company.  The second bridge replacement in the contract is located in Scotland County on Route M at Indian Creek and opened June 28.
