Henry and St. Clair Counties – Area residents are invited to two upcoming public meetings to provide input on safety improvements to high crash intersections along Missouri Route 13 between Clinton and Springfield, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The first public meeting will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, at the Benson Center Cummings Room, 1008 E. Sedalia Ave., in Clinton.
The second public meeting will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, at the Lakeland Scout Hall on the corner of Route A and Route 13 in Lowry City.
Both meetings will be come-and-go style meetings. NO FORMAL PRESENTATION IS PLANNED.
MoDOT will use the comments from area residents along with vehicle crash data to decide which intersections will see improvements and what improvements are possible with a limited budget.
Those who cannot attend one of the in-person meetings can visit an online public meeting at www.modot.gov/southwest. The same exhibits displayed at the in-person meeting will be available online.
MoDOT has $5 million set aside to improve intersections with high crash rates that can be remedied with a low-cost improvement. All types of improvements are possible including J-turns, left turn lanes and right turn lanes. There are no plans to place traffic signals at any of the Route 13 intersections.
MoDOT will hold three additional public meetings in Collins, Bolivar and north of Springfield in mid to late January.
A second series of public meetings will be held later in 2017 or early 2018 to share the plan for intersection improvements. It is likely that the intersections selected for safety improvements will see work begin as early as the summer of 2018.
