PLATTE/WYANDOTTE COUNTIES – Crews will temporarily close all northbound and southbound lanes of the new US 69 Missouri River Bridge from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9 for bridge demolition work. The final portion of the old Platte Purchase Bridge will be detonated. Southbound US 69 will be closed at I-635 and northbound US 69 will be closed at Kindleberger Rd. Motorists will need to find an alternate route. The E.H. Young Riverfront Park has been designated a safe viewing area for the bridge demolition. All work is weather dependent.
This is all part of a project to replace the current U.S. 69 Highway Bridge over the Missouri River. A new structure has been constructed in its place which includes multiple lanes and bike/pedestrian access. This project is shared by the Kansas Department of Transportation and MoDOT.
Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
