Ice in river postpones final demo of Platte Purchase Bridge

PLATTE/WYANDOTTE COUNTIES – Due to excessive ice in the Missouri River, the temporary closure of the US 69 Missouri River Bridge and detonation of the Platte Purchase Bridge has been delayed.

Crews originally planned to close all northbound and southbound lanes of the new US 69 Missouri River Bridge from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9 for bridge demolition work.

The bridge demo will happen at a later date. MoDOT will keep you posted on when the demo has been rescheduled. All work is weather dependent.

This is all part of a project to replace the current U.S. 69 Highway Bridge over the Missouri River. A new structure has been constructed in its place which includes multiple lanes and bike/pedestrian access. This project is shared by the Kansas Department of Transportation and MoDOT.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
