Update for Week of January 16, 2017
- Chestnut Expressway traffic scheduled to shift to temporary bypass on Thursday night, Jan. 19
- During traffic switch, Chestnut Expressway will be CLOSED between 9 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19-20
Work Scheduled:
- Apply pavement stripes to temporary Chestnut Expressway bypass
- Complete installation of railroad crossing gates and signals on temporary bypass
- Once traffic is on temporary bypass, begin excavation for bridge footings west of railroad tracks on existing Chestnut Expressway
Traffic Impacts:
- Daytime lane closings on Chestnut Expressway. Work hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. early in week.
- CHESTNUT EXPRESSWAY TRAFFIC SWITCH TO TEMPORARY BYPASS SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY NIGHT, JAN. 19:
- During traffic switch to bypass, Chestnut Expressway CLOSED between Belcrest Avenue and Ingram Mill Road
- Work hours: 9 p.m to 6 a.m., Thursday night into Friday morning, Jan. 19-20
- Signed detour during closing: Ingram Mill Road, Cherry Street, Union Avenue, Cairo Street and Belcrest Avenue
- Following traffic shift: Two westbound lanes open on Chestnut Expressway, one eastbound lane open, left-turns restricted at Belcrest Avenue/Chestnut Expressway intersection
- SIGNIFICANT TRAFFIC DELAYS ARE EXPECTED WHEN TRAFFIC IS MOVED TO BYPASS
- Drivers urged to find alternate routes
- If weather or construction delays postpone the traffic switch, it will take place Friday night, Jan. 20

Project Summary:
- Build a bridge on Chestnut Expressway over the railroad tracks west of Chestnut Expressway
- Build new roads on either side of Chestnut Expressway to provide access to area businesses
- Install a new traffic signal at Ingram Mill Road and Chestnut Expressway
- First phase of construction: June to December 2016. Prime contractor: D&E Blasting & Excavating, Nixa -- COMPLETED
- Second phase of construction: January 2017 to November 2017. Prime contractor: Lehman Construction Company, California
- Total project cost estimate: $14.8 million
- Partnership project: city of Springfield, Greene County, Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad, MoDOT
Completion Date: November 2017
