Chestnut Exp West of Rte 65 Set to Move to Temporary Bypass Thursday Night, Jan. 19
Chestnut Expressway scheduled to move to temporary bypass between Ingram Mill Road and Belcrest Avenue starting Thursday night, Jan. 19. MAJOR TRAFFIC CONGESTION EXPECTED FRIDAY MORNING/FRIDAY AFTERNOON, Jan. 20.
Where: Chestnut Expressway between Belcrest Avenue and Ingram Mill Road west of Route 65 in Springfield
What: Chestnut Expressway moved to temporary bypass built slightly north of the existing roadway to allow contractor crews to begin work to build new railroad overpass
When: After 9 p.m. Thursday night, Jan. 19
TRAFFIC IMPACTS:
- Chestnut Expressway CLOSED to all traffic during traffic move to temporary bypass.
- Detour:
- For eastbound traffic: Belcrest Avenue to Cairo Street to Union Avenue to Cherry Street to Ingram Mill Road
- For westbound traffic: Ingram Mill Road to Cherry Street to Union Avenue to Cairo Street to Belcrest Avenue
- By 6 a.m. Friday, traffic will be on temporary bypass for duration of bridge project until fall 2017
- One lane open eastbound on Chestnut Expressway
- Two lanes open westbound on Chestnut Expressway
- No center turn lane
- Left turns restricted in some directions at Chestnut Expressway/Belcrest Avenue intersection
- MAJOR TRAFFIC CONGESTION EXPECTED DURING FRIDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON RUSH HOURS
Project Facts:
- Build new roads on either side of Chestnut Expressway to provide access to area businesses
- Build a bridge on Chestnut Expressway over the railroad tracks west of Route 65
- Install a new traffic signal at Ingram Mill Road and Chestnut Expressway
- Frist phase of construction: June to December 2016
- Second phase of construction: January 2017 to late November 2017
- Total project cost estimate: $14.8 million
- Completion: Late November 2017
- Partnership project: city of Springfield, Greene County, Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad, MoDOT
