Michael DeMers joins MoDOT as Director of Innovative Partnerships and Alternative Funding

The Missouri Department of Transportation is pleased to welcome Michael DeMers as the director of Innovative Partnerships and Alternative Funding.

In this role, DeMers oversees the department’s efforts to find new opportunities for transportation revenue generation and explore new ways to leverage emerging technologies.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the MoDOT team,” DeMers said. “The department is considered a national leader in innovation and I look forward to continuing and building upon that tradition.”

DeMers draws upon a decade of experience in multimodal transportation planning, research, and administration in both the public and private sectors.

DeMers joins MoDOT from Arizona, where he led the Arizona Department of Transportation’s automated and connected vehicle, freight and rail planning, and economic development efforts within the Multimodal Planning Division. His work involved innovation both at the level of corridor planning—including partnerships with U.S. and Mexican states for intelligent transportation systems strategies—to field operational testing of new technologies. He has managed research partnership efforts in Arizona with universities and private sector peers. In leading ADOT’s State Freight Plan and State Rail Plan, he also managed Arizona’s Freight Advisory Committee.

He has also served as a consultant in the New York City office of Parsons Brinckerhoff, where his projects served clients ranging from state DOTs, port and transit authorities, and USDOT modal administrations.
