Update for Week of March 6, 2017
- Northbound Route 65 traffic scheduled to move to widened southbound bridge over Springfield Lake Monday night, March 6, to make way for new northbound bridge over the lake
- Two lanes in each direction remain open much of the time on Route 65 after traffic switch. However, all traffic shifted to southbound side of highway.
Work Scheduled:
- Striping pavement on northbound Route 65 median crossovers
- Building bridge footings for new northbound Route 65 bridge underneath the highway
- Moving in equipment for demolition of northbound bridge starting week of March 13
- Building concrete barrier wall in Route 65 median between Springfield Lake and Evans Road
Traffic Impacts:
- NORTHBOUND ROUTE 65 TRAFFIC MOVE:
- Starting at 7 p.m. Monday, March 6, northbound Route 65 traffic moved to widened portion of southbound bridge over Springfield Lake (If the traffic move does not occur Monday night, March 6, crews will reschedule for Tuesday night, March 7.)
- During traffic move, northbound Route 65 traffic slowed and possibly stopped for short periods
- Lane closings possible during traffic switch
- Traffic move needed to allow contractor crews to replace northbound bridge
- Traffic shift will remain in place until new bridge completed in late summer
- Northbound Route 65 speed limit reduced to 50 mph at Springfield Lake bridge
- Southbound Route 65 ramp from eastbound Route 60 extended across Springfield Lake bridge. Drivers encouraged to use extended ramp and merge into southbound Route 65 after crossing bridge.
- ROAD/TRAIL CLOSINGS:
- Timbercrest Road underneath Route 65, the Galloway Greenways trail and the James River Water trail CLOSED until fall 2017
- Drivers urged to use alternate routes to get around the Timbercrest Road closing
- Trail users are urged to use other Greenways trails in the area
- Route 65 speed limit reduced to 55 mph in work zone
(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.)
Project Summary:
- Widen Route 65 to six lanes — three lanes in each direction — between Route 60 and a point south of Evans Road to continue the progress to six lane Route 65 toward Ozark
- Widen and rehabilitate southbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield to accommodate new lanes and to lengthen eastbound Route 60-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
- Replace northbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield with new, wider span to replace old bridge in constant need of repair
- Extend northbound Route 65 ramps to Route 60
