Route 43 Bridge Over Roark Creek CLOSED for

Replacement Beginning Week of March 13

Newton County – Drivers will need to find alternate routes around when the Roark Creek bridge on Missouri Route 43 south of Seneca is CLOSED beginning the week of March 13, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews will close the bridge so they can replace the deteriorating structure.

Once the bridge is closed, crews will have 80 calendar days to build the new bridge and have it open to traffic.

Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the bridge closing.

There will be no signed detour, so drivers will need to find alternate routes around the work zone.

The existing bridge was built in 1941 and was requiring frequent repairs. The new bridge will be slightly wider than the existing one. Approximately 900 vehicles per day use this bridge.

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.

Project background:

  • Prime Contractor: Boone Construction Co., Columbia
  • Completion Date: December 1, 2017 (Contractor expects to complete the project in mid-summer)
  • Total Cost: $900,000
