Public Invited to Informational Meeting about Route H Bridge Replacement

Road will close during construction

HANNIBAL – The Missouri Department of Transportation encourages all drivers and businesses who use Route H in Lincoln County for their commute and daily activities to attend a public informational meeting on Thursday, March 30 between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.  The meeting will take place at the Lincoln County Health Department located at #5 Health Department Drive in Troy, Missouri.  This is an open-house style meeting, so anyone can stop by within that 90 minutes and visit with MoDOT staff, look at various displays, and also learn about other upcoming road work in the area.

The bridge replacement project was recently awarded to Don Schnieders Excavating for $1,488,098.56.

During construction, which is expected to take up to three months, the road will be closed and access to the Crouch Conservation Area will be limited.  “Construction will start sometime this summer, and once the contractor closes the bridge, he has up to 90 days to finish the project and reopen the road,” explained MoDOT Area Engineer Erik Maninga.

“The public can still visit Crouch Access during construction by using county roads, but access from Route H will not be available since the intersection of Route H and Shafer Road will be reconstructed as part of the project,” said Maninga.

In addition to a new bridge, the curves immediately north and south of the bridge will be widened to improve safety. The replacement bridge will be 28’ wide, compared to the existing 20’ wide bridge.  The new bridge will also be able to accommodate all legal loads. The bridge was weight limited and speed reduced on either side in 2015 due to its condition.

Message boards will be set out on either side of the bridge on Route H, as well as one on Shafer Road, at least two weeks prior to the bridge closure.  Other information will be available through local media and online at www.modot.org/northeast.  Another way to stay informed about road work in Lincoln County is to subscribe to MoDOT’s free e-update and text alert service, also found online under the Travelers tab.
