ST. LOUIS – Drivers who use Interstate 44 to commute into the city should be aware of some traffic changes starting later this week. Crews will close two lanes of four on westbound I-44 between Jamieson and Shrewsbury on Friday, March 24 at 6 a.m. to restripe the lanes.
When the lanes reopen at 2 p.m., one lane will remain closed around the clock. In addition, the three open lanes of traffic will be narrowed and shifted onto the eastbound I-44 bridge. The lanes will remain that way until December.
In addition, work on northbound I-55 at Route Z in Jefferson County will close one lane of traffic starting on Friday, March 24 at 5 p.m. The lane will remain closed through Monday, March 27 at 5 a.m. This is the first in a series of closures to rehab 21 bridges along I-55.
The exit from northbound I-55 to Route Z will also be closed. Drivers can detour around exit closure by taking northbound I-55 to Route M to southbound I-55 and back to Route Z.
As the weather continues to warm up, MoDOT maintenance crews are out patching potholes, striping and sweeping roadways. Please watch out for these slow moving operations and move over and slow down for them.
For additional work zone information and real-time roadway weather conditions, go to http://traveler.modot.org/map. For real time traffic, visit www.gatewayguide.com. All work is weather permitting and may be shifted due to inclement weather.
