National Work Zone Awareness Week April 3-7

Kick-Off Event Planned for Carthage on April 3

Please join us for a media briefing to kick-off National Work Zone Awareness Week 2017 at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 3, at Memorial Hall, 407 S. Garrison Ave., Carthage!

This year’s theme for the week is Work Zones are No Phone Zones.

MoDOT Southwest District Engineer Travis Koestner will be joined by representatives of Missouri State Highway Troop D, Jasper County Sheriff’s Department and Carthage Police Department to kick off the summer road construction and maintenance season and the importance of drivers putting down their phone and slowing down in work zones.

There will be a short news conference along with one-on-one interview availability with any of the MoDOT and law enforcement officials in attendance.  The news media is encouraged to attend and help spread the word about the major work zones that will occur in the area this summer. The work will have major impacts to traffic throughout the summer months.

Anyone posting information about National Work Zone Awareness Week on social media is encouraged to use the hashtags #OrangeForSafety and #NWZAW.  MoDOT also is encouraging everyone to wear orange on Monday, April 3, to support Work Zone Awareness.
