UPDATE: Final Phase of Bridge Project Set to Begin

CAMERON, Mo. – The bridge deck replacement project that rerouted traffic last year still has one final phase of the project to complete. The work had been scheduled to start Saturday, April 1, but had to be postponed. Contractors working with the Missouri Department of Transportation now plan to begin the final phase Friday, April 7.

On Friday, April 7, the contractor crews will begin setting the rigging, requiring the closure of one lane each direction on I-35. Throughout this part of the project, the contractor plans to work overnight from approximately 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday and around the clock on Sunday.

During the work, Interstate 35 and U.S. Route 36 may be reduced to one lane in each direction around the bridges so crews can access the structural steel girders under the new bridge decks. After the rigging is set, the girders will be blasted clean, and then recoated with a high quality paint that will help prevent deterioration over the life of the bridge.

The blasting and painting portions of the final phase have not been scheduled yet.

Please use extreme caution while driving, especially in work zones. Always buckle up and put your phone down.
