MoDOT to start work on Big Bend Bridge over I-270 next week

ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor, St. Louis Bridge, is beginning renovations on the Big Bend bridge over I-270.

Crews will close one lane overnight on the bridge over I-270 starting Monday, April 17 between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. for about three weeks to prepare the bridge for the work. In addition, crews will close up to three lanes on northbound and southbound I-270 overnight between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Crews may also close one lane across the bridge between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the day for some preliminary lighting work.

Crews will close the bridge in late May for three months to remove the driving surface from the bridge and replace it. Currently, the bridge is slated to close May 25, and should reopen before school begins in August. While the bridge is closed, drivers will be able to use the ramp from the east side of the bridge to northbound I-270 and the ramp from southbound I-270 to the west side of the bridge. There are several state, county and city roadways that local traffic can use to get from the east side of Big Bend to the west side of the bridge while it is closed.
