U.S. 61 All Lanes Closed North of Troy at Cuivre River

HANNIBAL - Motorists traveling both north and south on U.S. 61 just north of Troy will have to take a detour. "With several inches of rain in the area and continued precipitation in the forecast, the national weather service has predicted the Cuivre River north of Troy to crest at 28'7", and due to scour issues around the piers, we close the bridge when the river excedes 28 inches," said MoDOT Maintenance and Traffic Engineer Jennifer Hinson. "The good news is it looks like the water will begin receding within 12 hours, so we hope the closure will be in short duration," she added.

DETOURS: Southbound U.S. 61 traffic is being detoured on to U.S. 54 at Bowling Green, and then to Interstate 70. Northbound traffic is being detoured at U.S. 54 at Kingdom City, to U.S. 61 at Bowling Green. Another viable detour includes U.S. 63 at Columbia, north to U.S. 36. Motorists are advised to follow detour signs and be aware the detour may change.

Crews will continue to monitor the bridges and will not reopen until the water has receded, and the bridges have been inspected to ensure they have not been damaged.
