FLOODING UPDATE:

Kimberling City Bridge CLOSED Due to High Water

DRIVERS URGED TO USE OTHER STATE ROUTES TO GET AROUND MAJOR TABLE ROCK LAKE CROSSING

MoDOT, Southwest District – MoDOT has CLOSED the Kimberling City Bridge on Route 13 over Table Rock Lake in southern Stone County due to rising lake waters, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Currently, lake water has risen into the girders on the underside of the bridge causing MoDOT to make the decision to close the bridge for the safety of the traveling public.

Drivers are urged to use other state routes in the area to get around the bridge including Route 86, Route 65, Route 165 and the other state routes available to drivers in the southern Stone County area.

There is no estimate of how long the bridge will remain closed.  It all depends on how quickly the waters recede and what, if any, damage occurs to the parts of the bridge that will be underwater.

Once the Kimberling City bridge can be closed, MoDOT crews will move to Route 86 at Dogwood Canyon and reopen Route 86 which was closed due to flooding over the weekend.

Drivers are urged to remember that southwest Missouri has witnessed historic flooding over the past several days and that state, city and county road crews are working ‘round the clock to open roads as water recedes.

However, high, rushing waters have caused damage to roads and bridges that could require them to remain closed as crews make inspections and repairs.

MoDOT crews are clearing debris from low-water crossings and from roads where water has deposited debris. The work could take several hours to several days to complete.

Currently, several major roadways in southwest Missouri continue to be impacted by high water.  Here is a listing of those impacts:

  • I-44 between Lebanon and Rolla: CLOSED between Mile Markers 129 and 186. Traffic is detoured. The closing will increase traffic on Route 60 east of Springfield.  This will cause significant traffic delays.
  •  Westbound Route 60 between Missouri Route 125 and Greene County Farm Road 213 between Springfield and Rogersville: Route 60 traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction and moved to the eastbound side of Route 60.

MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map is being updated ‘round the clock and is the best source for the latest updates on road closings across Missouri and especially in southwest Missouri.
