Greene County Route H/South Dry Sac Creek

Bridge Construction Focus of May 9 Public Meeting

Greene County – The construction schedule for replacing the Greene County Route H bridge over the South Dry Sac Creek just north of Springfield is the focus of a public meeting on Tuesday evening, May 9, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The public is invited to attend the come-and-go style meeting to learn more about the plans to replace the bridge starting the week of May 15.  The meeting will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, at Northside Christian Church, 4902 N. State Highway H. NO FORMAL PRESENTATION IS PLANNED.

Those unable to attend the in-person meeting can view exhibits and get project timeline information by visiting an online public meeting at www.modot.org/southwest.  The information will be posted and ready for viewing on the afternoon of May 9.

Once the project starts the week of May 15, the contractor, Lehman Construction, will close the road and begin work to replace the bridge. It’s expected that once the road closes, it will take crews up to four months to complete the project and reopen Route H.

Weather and/or construction delays, could alter the start date of the project.

The bridge, located between Bluegrass Road (Farm Road 94) and Farm Road 92, was built in 1927.  It was rehabilitated and widened in 1953. And in 2007, MoDOT forces made major repairs to the bridge a second time.  However, the major repairs were a stop gap measure.  In recent years, the bridge has deteriorated and is in need of replacement.

Project Information:

  • Replace existing bridge with a new structure
  • New bridge raised two feet higher than existing bridge. Route H also will be raised to meet the new bridge.
  • New bridge will be 32 feet wide, with two 11-foot driving lanes and five-foot shoulders
  • New bridge will be 45 feet longer than existing bridge
  • Route H will be CLOSED to traffic for approximately four months
  • Project completion: Dec. 1, 2017 (The contractor plans to complete bridge by mid-to-late summer.)
  • Prime contractor: Lehman Construction, California
  • Construction cost: $654,475
