JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will close one westbound lane of Interstate 44 at Hazelgreen in Laclede County at 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 6 through Saturday night. The lane closure will allow crews to finalize repairs caused by this week’s flooding of the Gasconade River. One westbound lane of I-44 will be open while the repairs are made.
A pavement contractor working for MoDOT, Willard Asphalt Paving, will lay a two-inch layer of asphalt on the damaged stretch to complete repairs made Tuesday. Rather than completing the work at that time, MoDOT opened the roadway as soon as it was passable to get traffic moving and ease delays and congestion caused by the flooding.
“Once the flood waters receded on I-44 at Hazelgreen, our goal was to get the road back open to traffic as quickly as possible,” said David Silvester, MoDOT Central District Engineer. “We’re now going back in to place the top layer of asphalt to complete the work.”
Silvester thanked motorists for their patience during the recent interstate closure.
