CALLAWAY COUNTY – Work to replace the Route H bridge over Davis Creek in Callaway County will begin on Monday, May 15. The bridge is located approximately four miles west of Route 54 in Fulton.
The bridge will be completely closed to traffic on May 15 and will remain closed until work is completed in early August. Drivers are encouraged to use Routes J and 54 as a detour around the work. Electronic message boards have been installed in both directions of Route H to alert motorists about the closure.
The work will replace an existing structure that was built in 1936 and was 20-feet wide. The new bridge will be four-feet wider and will be safer for motorists.
The bridge replacement is part of a larger plan by the Missouri Department of Transportation to improve 12 bridges in Callaway County during the next 12 months.
Those bridges are:
- Route 54 eastbound over Richland Creek
- Route 54 westbound over Richland Creek
- Route 54 eastbound over the KCR Railroad
- Route 54 eastbound Stinson Creek
- Route 54 eastbound over Business Route 54
- Route 54 eastbound over Interstate 70
- Route 54 westbound over Interstate 70
- Route 54 westbound over Middle River
- Route 54 westbound over Hillers Creek
- Route O over Crows Fork Creek
Work on one bridge, Route UU over Crows Fork Creek, has already been completed.
The bridges over Richland Creek and the KCR Railroad will get new decks. The remaining bridges will be rehabilitated. All of the bridges are located between I-70 and New Bloomfield.
