JEFFERSON CITY – Some new traffic movements designed to make the Route 50/63 and Shamrock/Liberty Roads intersection east of Jefferson City safer will soon be in place.
The intersection where Liberty and Shamrock roads intersect on the south side with eastbound Route 50/63 will open after the evening rush hour today.
As a result, drivers will experience the following new traffic movements:
- Access to Liberty/Shamrock Road on the south side of Route 50/63 will be reduced to right-turns only from eastbound Route 50/63.
- Northbound traffic on Liberty/Shamrock Road from the south side of Route 50/63 will be able to turn right onto eastbound Route 50/63.
New acceleration and deceleration lanes at the Lisletown Road and Route 50/63 intersection will also open about the same time this evening.
Some other safety improvements are still in the works, including the median crossover at the Route 50/63 and Shamrock/Liberty Roads intersection and an acceleration lane from North Shamrock Road to westbound Route 50/63.
The project also includes repairing and resurfacing eastbound and westbound Route 50/63 from the Moreau River to near the Osage County line. That work will be ongoing for several months.
More information about this project, including maps, diagrams, and frequently asked questions, is available at www.MoDOT.org/Central.
