Route 65: THE REBUILD - Springfield

Update for Week of June 19, 2017
  • New temporary traffic signals installed at three east Springfield intersections to help with traffic flow during Route 65 closings
  • Night work continues week of June 19
  • REMINDER: Full closings of Route 65 in one direction at a time start week of July 10                                            

 

Work Scheduled:  

  • Crews surveying to get exact measurements of pavement to be replaced
  • New temporary traffic signals installed at Eastgate Avenue at Cherry Street, Eastgate Avenue at Catalpa Street, and LeCompte Road at Division Street intersections
    • New signals will begin flashing on Thursday, June 29
    • New signals will go into full operation at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, July 10, when southbound Route 65 is closed starting at Kearney Street
    • New signals installed in anticipation of increased traffic at the three intersections once Route 65 closings begin
    • Drivers will experience delays at the intersections when the new traffic signals go into full operation
    • Traffic signals are temporary and will be removed when the closings of Route 65 are complete

 Traffic Impacts:  

  • NIGHT WORK: Up to two lanes at a time closed on Route 65 in areas between Kearney and Sunshine streets. At least one lane will remain open to traffic in each direction at all times. Work hours: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Full CLOSINGS of southbound or northbound Route 65 will not start until week of July 10

  • (Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.) 

 

Project Summary:

  • Rebuild outside two lanes in both directions of Route 65 between Kearney Street and Sunshine Street
  • Route 65 CLOSED in segments (between interchanges) in one direction at a time from week of July 10 until first of September
  • Rebuild or repair interchange ramps
  • Upgrade guardrail
  • Rebuild outside shoulders
  • Prime Contractor: Millstone Weber, LLC of St. Charles, Mo.
  • Completion Date: November 2017
  • Total Project Cost: $7.9 million
