HANNIBAL - Noix Creek and Buffalo Creek Bridges will be replaced this summer on Missouri Route 79 in Pike County. Tentatively, Noix Creek will close Wednesday, July 5, and Buffalo Creek will close a few weeks later. Detour signs will be in place for rerouting traffic using state roads. Detour map
Each bridge will be closed up to 80 days, and both bridges will simultaneously be closed during a portion of August and September. Like all road and bridge construction, the schedule is weather dependent. Bridge construction is limited to 80 closure days per bridge with the requirement to complete Noix Creek by October 1, 2017 and Buffalo Creek by November 1, 2017.
The awarded contractor for both bridge replacements is L.F. Krupp Construction of Ellisville, MO. The total bid for Noix Creek and Buffalo Creek Bridges is $2,547,908.56.
Details about the new bridges
The proposed Noix Creek Bridge will be 244’ in length and have an overall width of 38’. It will have a 22’ travelway with 2’ shoulder on the west and a 6’ shoulder on the east side of the bridge. There will be a 5’ protected pedestrian walkway along west side of the bridge. The proposed bridge will be approximately 1.5’ higher than the existing bridge. The proposed elevation of the bridge coincides with a Flood Study performed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Louisiana. The new bridge could lessen the occurrences of flooding; however, it will not eliminate flooding due to the lower elevation of the railroad crossing. The cost for Noix Creek Bridge is $1,408,094.47 and the new bridge is expected to have a life span of 75 years.
The proposed Buffalo Creek Bridge will be 206’ in length and have an overall width of 32’. The proposed bridge will be approximately 1’ higher than the existing bridge. It will have a 22’ travelway with 5’ shoulders for bike lane designation. MoDOT has coordinated with the owner of the abandoned overhead truss located to the north of the bridge. The overhead truss will be removed during the roadway closure. The cost for Buffalo Creek Bridge is $1,139,814.09 and the new bridge is expected to have a life span of 75 years.
