MOUND CITY, Mo. – Bridge deck work on two bridges in Holt County, just south of Mound City will bring lane and ramp closures to the area.
Beginning July 19, contractors from Comanche Construction, Inc. of Olathe, Kansas, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will work on reconstructing the shoulders just south of Exit 84 on Interstate 29. During this phase of the project, one lane may be closed in each direction. Crews will be working dawn to dusk, Monday through Friday. Motorists are urged to use caution, slow down, and eliminate distractions. This portion of the project is scheduled to continue through Aug. 2.
The second phase of the project is planned to begin Aug. 3. This portion will close the passing lane both north and southbound at the Davis Creek bridges and the old railroad bridges just south of Exit 84. The contractor will remove and replace the surface of the bridges, as well as fill in the area under the old railroad bridges.
The final phase of the project, scheduled to begin Oct. 3, will remove and replace the surface of the bridges in the driving lane. All traffic will be moved into the passing lane, each direction, through approximately Nov. 30.
During both the second and final stages of the project, the southbound ramp from Route 118 at Mound City onto I-29 will be closed. The other three ramps will remain open for the duration of the project. A signed detour will reroute traffic around the ramp closure.
All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change. MoDOT encourages all motorists to slow down, buckle up, eliminate distractions and drive safely to ensure everyone is able to Arrive Alive.
