Route 65: THE REBUILD - Springfield

Update for Week of July 17, 2017

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROJECT IN THE COMING WEEK:

  • Southbound Route 65 CLOSED between Division Street and Chestnut Expressway at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday evening, July 16
  • Southbound Route 65 OPENS from I-44 to Division Streets at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 16
  • Southbound Route 65 reduced to one lane between a point south of I-44 to Division Street

 

                                            

Work Scheduled:  

  • Breaking up and removing concrete pavement in two southbound outside lanes of Route 65 between Division Street and Chestnut Expressway early in the week
  • Pouring new concrete for southbound outside lanes starting on Tuesday or Wednesday
  • Rebuilding/repairing southbound on ramp from Division Street to Route 65 and southbound off ramp from Route 65 to Chestnut Expressway
  • Crews working 24-hours a day with construction noise possible ‘round the clock 

Traffic Impacts:  

  • ROAD CLOSED: Southbound Route 65 CLOSED between Division Street and Chestnut Expressway
    • Closing time: around 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, until as late as 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 23
    • Southbound Route 65 reduced to one lane south of I-44 to Division Street
    • All southbound Route 65 traffic can and must exit at Division Street
    • Southbound Route 65 traffic can exit at Kearney Street
  • RAMPS CLOSED:
    • I-44 ramps to southbound Route 65 CLOSED
    • Southbound on ramp from Division Street to Route 65 CLOSED
    • Southbound off ramp from Route 65 to Chestnut Expressway CLOSED
  • ROUTE 65 DETOUR:
    • Signed detour using I-44 and Route 360/60 (southwest loop around Springfield)
    • Alternate detour using Route 125 between I-44 and Route 60
    • Drivers encouraged to find alternate routes to destinations inside Springfield including Glenstone Avenue, Kansas Expressway and West Bypass
  • TEMPORARY TRAFFIC SIGNALS:
    • Located at Eastgate Avenue & Cherry Street, Eastgate Avenue & Catalpa Street, and LeCompte Road & Division Street intersections
    • Drivers will experience delays at the intersections
    • Traffic signals are temporary and will be removed when the closings of Route 65 are complete in late August/early September 

(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.) 

Project Summary:

  • Rebuild outside two lanes in both directions of Route 65 between Kearney Street and Sunshine Street
  • Route 65 CLOSED in segments (between interchanges) in one direction at a time from week of July 10 until first of September
  • Southbound closings start on July 10 with completion by late July/early August
    • Southbound closed between Kearney and Division Streets week of July 10
    • Southbound closed between Division Street and Chestnut Expressway week of July 17
    • Southbound closed between Chestnut Expressway and Sunshine Street week of July 24
  • Northbound closings start on August 7 with completion by late August/early September
    • Northbound closed between Sunshine Street and Chestnut Expressway week of August 7
    • Northbound closed between Chestnut Expressway and Division Street week of August 14
    • Northbound closed between Division Street and Kearney Street week of August 21
  • Rebuild or repair interchange ramps
  • Upgrade guardrail
  • Rebuild outside shoulders
  • Prime Contractor: Millstone Weber, LLC of St. Charles, Mo.
  • Completion Date: November 2017
  • Total Project Cost: $7.9 million
