When: Noon, Monday, July 17
What: Missouri Route 96 bridge over the BNSF railroad is OPEN to traffic after contractor crews completed replacement of the old bridge
Project details:
- Project included two bridges – Route 96 over BNSF and Spring River Overflow
- Demolition of both bridges began in late February
- Bridge over the railroad, built in 1934, was closed to traffic Sept. 1, 2016 when inspection of the bridge revealed additional deterioration
- Bridge over the railroad was widened to include 12-foot driving lanes, six-foot shoulders and a five-foot wide protected pedestrian walkway
- Overflow bridge was replaced with 12-foot driving lanes and 10-foot shoulders, and was reopened on June 7
- Total cost to replace both bridges: $6.2 million
- Prime contractor: Clarkson Construction Co., Kansas City
- Contractor has some minor clean-up work remaining on the project that won’t impact traffic.
- The contract completion date: October 15, 2017
