St. Louis Work Zones for July 20-26:

Weekend Work to Close Westbound I-44 between Stan Musial VMB and I-55

ST. LOUIS – Drivers heading downtown this weekend should allow themselves extra time or consider taking Metro. Starting on Friday, July 21 at 8 p.m. MoDOT will close:

  • All lanes of westbound I-44 from the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge to the Poplar Street Bridge.
  • All lanes of westbound I-44 and southbound I-55 from the Poplar Street Bridge to the I-44/I-55 split.

The work will allow crews to remove and replace pavement at the bottom of the Poplar Street Bridge ramp to westbound I-44/southbound I-55 and replace joints along the bridge over 3rd Street.

In addition, the following will close on Friday, July 21 at 7 p.m.:

  • The I-70 express lanes.
  • The ramp from Washington Avenue to westbound I-44.
  • The South Memorial Drive ramp to westbound I-44/southbound I-55.
  • The ramp from westbound Poplar Street Bridge to southbound I-55/westbound I-44.
  • The ramp from westbound Poplar Street Bridge to Walnut/eastbound I-44.

To detour from westbound PSB to southbound I-55/westbound I-44, drivers should continue on I-64 and exit at 21st Street/Market. Then take Market to Jefferson and Jefferson south to the I-44 interchange.

To detour from I-70/westbound I-44, drivers should take Tucker to Lafayette to the I-55/I-44 interchange.

All lanes, except the I-70 express lanes, will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, July 24. The I-70 express lanes will remain closed around the clock until August 7 for resurfacing.

Drivers on southbound Interstate 55 in Jefferson County should give themselves extra time when traveling this weekend. One lane on southbound I-55 will be closed at Route A starting on Friday, July 21 at 8 p.m. until Monday, July 24 at 2 p.m.

Drivers are encouraged to use the zipper merge when traveling through the lane closure by filling up both lanes of traffic and then taking turns merging just before the closure point.  This will actually make traffic flow better and decrease merging dangers.
