MOUND CITY, Mo. – The continuing bridge deck work on two bridges in Holt County, just south of Mound City will soon have significant impact for interstate traffic. Both the Davis Creek bridges will receive a new bridge deck and the bridges over the old railroad will be removed and the area below them filled in. The project includes lane closures and a ramp closure.
Contractors from Comanche Construction, Inc. of Olathe, Kansas, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, have already begun the project. There will be three distinct phases of the project:
- July 19 – July 28 (Phase 1): shoulder work with one lane closed each direction
- July 31 – Nov. 30 (Phases 2 and 3): remove and replace the surface of the bridges, fill in under old railroad bridges. The southbound ramp from Route 118 at Mound City onto Interstate 29 will be CLOSED to all traffic. A signed detour will reroute traffic around the ramp closure.
- Phase 2 – passing lane closed both directions.
- Phase 3 – driving lane closed both directions.
All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change. MoDOT encourages all motorists to slow down, buckle up, eliminate distractions and drive safely to ensure everyone is able to Arrive Alive.
