MoDOT inspectors identifying a fix following a concrete barrier crash on I-70

KANSAS CITY – Bridge inspectors for The Missouri Department of Transportation plan to revisit the section of concrete barrier struck by a commercial vehicle on westbound I-70 over Troost Ave. in downtown Kansas City. The commercial vehicle struck the barrier on Tuesday, Aug. 2 causing it to partially topple over. District Engineer Brian Kidwell says the impact of the crash also damaged part of the bridge deck on I-70 as well as the barrier. Kidwell says inspectors are now in the process of determining a fix. A timeline of the repairs has not been determined. All work is weather dependent.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
