Bolivar, Polk County – Drivers can expect road sign changes and new pavement markings at the Route 13 and Polk County Route U/Y intersection in Bolivar starting the week of July 31, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The changes include removing a stop sign on Polk County Route U at the Route 13 outer road on the west side of Route 13.
At a public meeting held in Bolivar in January to discuss intersection improvements along Route 13, area residents voiced concerns about the signing at the intersection. That information, coupled with continued crashes, have prompted the improved signing and paving markings.
Here’s a look at what is taking place:
- New larger stop signs, yield signs, do not enter signs and other signing at the intersection
- Add yellow crossroads signs on Route 13 in advance of the intersection of Routes U/Y
- Remove a stop sign for eastbound traffic on Route U at the Route 13 outer road
- Add “cross traffic does not stop” signs on the Route 13 outer road stop signs at Route U
- Add pavement markings for the northbound acceleration lane on Route 13
- All work should be completed by mid-August
Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.
MoDOT is working with the city of Bolivar to develop a long-term safety solution at the intersection. The work currently taking place is a low-cost, intermediate project to help improve safety until a more long-term solution can be determined.
