KANSAS CITY – Repairs to the right lane of westbound I-70 over Troost Ave. in downtown Kansas City will take approximately two weeks. To accommodate the repairs, crews will close a second lane after rush hour Wednesday, Aug. 2 to set up a temporary barrier and will reopen the lane after the protective barrier is placed.
Inspectors with The Missouri Department of Transportation determined that the bridge deck on westbound I-70 was damaged in addition to a concrete barrier. A commercial vehicle struck the barrier on Tuesday, Aug. 1 causing it to partially topple over. All work is weather dependent.
Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
