CAMDEN COUNTY – The completion date for the new Route D bridge over Bank Branch in Camden County will be delayed by about three weeks because the concrete piers built to support the bridge did not pass inspection.
The bridge was originally scheduled to open to traffic in mid-August, with all work scheduled to be completed by Sept. 30. However, an inspection of the new piers revealed they did not meet specified standards, and it will take an additional three weeks to correct the issue.
Missouri Department of Transportation officials are working with the contractor, KCI Construction, to get the bridge open to traffic by Labor Day.
“We are sorry for the inconvenience this delay will cause, and we’re working to ensure the contractor completes the project as quickly as possible,” said Chris Graham, resident engineer for MoDOT’s Central District.
Work to replace the 58-year old bridge began June 15. The bridge is located approximately four miles south of Route 54 in Camden County and 12 miles north of Route E in Laclede County. The entrance to Ha Ha Tonka State Park is north of the closure and has remained open during the project.
