Three Mid-Missouri Bridges to Get New Paint Job

Work Starts Monday on Route 5 Bridge Over I-44

JEFFERSON CITY – A project to paint three bridges in central Missouri will start next week beginning with the Route 5 bridge over Interstate 44 in Laclede County.

One lane of I-44 in each direction will remain open during the painting, which will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Monday, Aug. 7 and ending Friday, Aug. 18. The impact on Route 5 traffic will be minimal.

The work will involve sandblasting the bridge to remove the old paint and then putting a new coat of paint on the steel bridge.

Bridges in Morgan and Cooper counties are scheduled to get the same treatment. The Route M bridge over Haw Creek in Morgan County will be painted after the Route 5 bridge repainting is complete. The contractor has 15 days to complete that job before moving to the Route Z bridge over Heaths Creek in Cooper County. It will take about 23 days to paint that bridge.

Work on those bridges will follow the same schedule as the Route 5 bridge, with work taking place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. One lane of each route will be closed during the work, and a flagger will direct motorists through the work zone.
