HOWARD COUNTY – A project to repave a portion of Missouri Route 5 in Howard County, as well as make sidewalk improvements in Glasgow, will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 8.
Work on the sidewalk improvements, which will bring them into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), will take place daily from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. from Tuesday, Aug. 8 through Wednesday, Aug 16 at the intersection of Third and Commerce streets in Glasgow. Motorists will encounter temporary lane closures in that area during work hours. Flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone.
Additional ADA sidewalk work will take place from Tuesday, Aug. 22 through Thursday, Aug. 24 along Route 5 at the intersection of First and Commerce streets. Motorists can expect temporary lane closures during work hours and flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone.
Repaving work on Route 5 will take place from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 18 and Monday, Aug. 21. Work will continue on Tuesday, Aug. 22, if needed. The roadway will be resurfaced between the Bear Creek bridge and the Missouri Route 87 junction. One lane will be closed during the work. Flaggers and a pilot car will guide motorists through the work zone. Motorists should expect delays and lower their speeds through the area.
Pilot cars help motorists safely navigate through work zones that might include equipment crossings, difficult crossroads, lane changes or other obstacles.
Here’s how it works: At each end of the work zone, a flagger will stop traffic until the pilot car is ready to lead vehicles through the work area. The pilot car will then guide vehicles safely through the work zone and will pull off the road at the end of the work zone to allow the travelers to continue on their way. The car will then repeat the process, traveling in the other direction.
The entire project is scheduled for completion in mid-September.
